From Mr. Adnan Oktar's interview on Çay TV and Maraş Aksu TV on November-12, 2009
ADNAN OKTAR: I listened to those speakers. I mean, I listened in brief. There are deficient sides to both. One of them says, while talking, that a Muslim can be rich. OK he can be rich but why would he be rich, he would be rich for the approval of Allah and the one who becomes rich for the approval of Allah, uses that wealth for Allah's approval, he uses his means for that purpose. The Prophet Solomon(pbuh) was rich, but he used it for Allah, didn't he? Not for his own pleasure. He used it for Allah's approval. The Prophet Abraham(pbuh) was also rich. But he used it for Allah's approval. Rasulullah (saas) was rich, and he used it for Allah's approval. He, himself lived quite ordinarily. I mean, he left nothing to this world, isn't that right? Insha'Allah. Possessions are for Allah and are used for Allah. You have books printed, for instance, or have mosques built, or you have students educated or hold conferences. You use your money for that. That is what money is good for. Or, I don't know, there are poor, wretched people, you do things to look after them and to save them. But apart from that, you can also establish factories. But you have that factory built for Allah's approval so that it can be of service for the people. This needs to be really well emphasized. Or else there are some rich people who are really after their own wealth, that is their attitude.
PRESENTER: And never help anyone.
ADNAN OKTAR: That is very interesting. They sometimes gather lots of people together, turn up in their cars and then hand everyone a single packet of pasta, before everyone's eyes. Or they have a mosque built using their names and surnames and put the names of seven lines of his family. These are somewhat different endeavors. I mean building a mosque up is something good, of course, and he can put his name on it, that is not something bad. But what really important is the spreading of the religion. People need books, information or holding conferences, don't they? It is a good endeavor to have a film made. Or to have a book printed and then hand it out in large numbers, free of charge. There need to be activities like that. But on the other hand, it is also wrong to try to depict Islam as socialism. But of course there is always a good intention behind it. Because a great many Muslims only think of their families and relatives, and once they are all right they don't interest themselves in anything else.
Presenter: The world is saved then, according to them.
Adnan Oktar: Yes, that is all they ask. They say that is their responsibility. Whereas in the Qur'an, and our friend is right on that, there is a constant giving of alms, a constant spending of what one has for Allah, dedicating oneself entirely to Allah. That is quiet explicit. In that respect it is true. I didn't see that in the other person, but maybe that is because I didn't listen to it all. He only had an attitude stating only that Muslims can be wealthy. I seem to remember him citing Hazrat Omar(ra). Hazrat Omar(ra) was rich, but he spent all his money and possessions for Allah. He lived for Allah and was martyred for Allah. He spent his whole life for His sake. And he never lived in comfort. He always suffered hardship and difficulties. He was always busy with fighting, struggles and helping the poor. His own life was somewhat plain. But that stems from circumstances, or else our Prophet (saas), for instance, used to be dressed very well, for example. He dressed very finely. Hazrat Omar also wore very fine and clean clothes. But there is no law that Muslims have to wear rags or live in wretched homes.
PRESENTER: Also Abu Hanife, isn't he?
ADNAN OKTAR: Abu Hanife, of course. They were all rich. However, there is a classical wealthy type. There are people who are no use to anyone but themselves. Who look down their noses at others. Who are quite loveless, who imagine that everyone admires them because they are rich, some vain types. Their attitude of course is not a proper one. Sincere Muslims spend all they have, with all their might for the sake of Allah.
