From Adnan Oktar's interview on 5 April 2010 on Adiyaman Asu TV
ADNAN OKTAR: For one thing, we need to enjoy the delight of sincerity in our internal worlds. Sincerity is the greatest pleasure. It is the main element that rests and delights the human soul and opens the door to love, joy and everything. We must first, therefore, achieve sincerity, ease our souls in other words, because once one has sincerity the door of the conscience opens side, and that means you will now heed the voice of your conscience alone.
Because people always suppress the voices of their consciences, the majority of people, and so the consciences of many people are seriously impaired. They talk about someone having "an uneasy conscience," and that makes people very ugly. Their mouths and noses become twisted, their skins go off, they lose their hair, suffer from hernias and all kinds of other things. Of course people suffer from physical diseases, but these are mainly psychological in origin. When one tries to suppress one's conscience, the conscience then attacks the body in order to defend itself. Conscience is severely sweltered. Then the body starts to tear itself apart. That is a feature of the body, it does not want the conscience to be harmed. That is a feature of the body. When the body is harmed, in other words, when it rebels because of the conscience, then suffering begins. The body is jealous of the conscience. It does not want any harm to come to the conscience. The body literally kills itself. The cells kill themselves. Then people's speech is impaired, their logic is impaired, they become irritable and tense, depressed, and always look on the dark side.
But when one is sincere, one enjoys a great transparency and sharpness. It leads to foresight and intelligence. Everything begins to seem very clear. For example, we have been created to easily comprehend the existence of Allah. Understanding Allah is even easier than drinking water. Believing in Allah is easier than drinking water. Allah created us in a way that we may live in comfort. When one suppresses one's conscience, then understanding and serving Allah becomes very difficult. One first has to be sincere. But sincerity is something requiring great care. One cannot just say, "OK, I am going to be sincere." That is not adequate, one may not be sincere when saying he or she is sincere. Sincerity is a bottomless depth and beauty. One can always be more sincere, and still more sincere, and more sincere yet. In other words, one will suffocate if one says, "OK, I have achieved sincerity, and that is that." That is very dangerous. One has to keep working at sincerity. If it stops growing, a sickness may develop insincerity. That is why a sincere person must always be very careful. That is why Allah warns people in the Qur'an to be very attentive and to pay heed. This is very important. Allah says people must reflect very deeply. Paying heed and deep reflection, these things are of great importance. But when one speaks of deep reflection, there are some people who sit with their heads in their hands, tearing their hair out from time to time. That is not what is being referred to, of course. It refers to genuine, sincere reflection. Once that happens, then everything begins to go in the believer's favor.
