Excerpt from Mr. Adnan Oktar's live interview on Kanal 35, March 21th, 2010
ADNAN OKTAR:There are ignorant people who are completely uneducated or those graduated from elementary school but still ignorant. A person who doesn’t have any knowledge or good manners... He has the appearance of a religious person with his outfits and attitude. But building up a crowd or a community composed of such people.. It is a dangerous ground for future to rejoice about the large number of Muslims. It is very dangerous because the ignorant doesn’t always stay an ignorant and one day becomes enlightened. It is important to be a Muslim when enlightened. It is important to be a Muslim with an intelligent, knowledgeable, aware and open mind. It may not be so effective to make the ignorant a Muslim. Let me tell you. It may not be right to rely on them. It would be a great mistake to bring forward the mentality that broke up the Ottoman Empire like opening up a can of food and assume that Turkish-Islamic Union can be established as such. You are making another trial with the poison that killed the Ottoman Empire. I am telling you, it will kill again. These things wouldn’t go forward with ignorance. This thing wouldn’t work by relying on ignorant mass. For example, you gather up 2000 ignorant people. It is not difficult. You gather 3000 people but getting agitated over this would be a huge mistake. The community of enlightened, cultured, clear-headed and literate people is of importance. It is very important that these people sincerely believe in Islam and the Qur’an and have faith. Therefore I canalized over the high society and the enlightened part of society ever since the beginning. I aimed for them. But of course I’m sending some messages between the lines with these and telling in a specific way. We can’t say everything with the exact equivalent. We say it with courtesy. That is the second message.
