Excerpt from Adnan Oktar's live interview on HarunYahya.tv, June 16th , 2010
ADNAN OKTAR: Thanks be to Allah, as a nation we are very strong, but we are also just as compassionate, reconciliatory, just and reasonable people. We want that to spread, in speaking of the Turkish-Islamic Union. For instance, here we have these very heroic people from Anatolia, who are so very dear to us. Each and everyone is mild as a lamb. But if they have to die for Allah, see that mother of ours there, then they go off without batting an eyelid. They will lay down their lives for Allah, but in a rational manner. In a rational way. For instance the Companions were fighting in war but they were carrying arms and armor. Then they would shout 'Allah!' and dive in among them, and Allah would protect them. They clung to natural causes, didn't they? Allah says, "If there are twenty of you who are steadfast, they will overcome two hundred.." Insha'Allah. But they are armed, meaning they do not dive in empty-handed, insha'Allah. Then after the victory what do they do? They offer food and drink. That is also in the Qur'an, they offer their own food and drink, meaning they do not offer any food that would be humiliating. If they are cooking meat in their own homes, that is what they offer to their prisoners. They show them respect and kindness, don't they? They show respect, even though they have crushed them, insha'Allah.
PRESENTER: You don't get that in other communities
ADNAN OKTAR: Of course not. They humiliate their prisoners and mistreat them. For example, the Ottomans would go and conquer somewhere, but they never interfered in their religion, nor their religious affairs, language, culture or anything. On the contrary, they were always helpful. What do you want? Money? Here is money for you. Do you want seeds? Here are seeds for you. What else do you want? We will give it to you. If people said, "such and such people are making life difficult for us." "Allah willing," said the Ottomans and go and sort them out. They didn't let anyone near them. They did whatever kindness demanded, insha'Allah, they did whatever needs to be done. But things are not like that now. Take the American occupation of Iraq. We would never enter a church with boots on, if we captured somewhere. We wouldn't go in combat boots. We would not go and sleep in them. We would display good manners and be aware that this was where they prayed. That too is the house of Allah, insha'Allah. That is also in the Qur'an, Allah says "Churches, synagogues and mosques were torn down." But believers were very kind and careful, of course. There was a huge respect for women, for instance. For example, if a woman is captured in war you will never treat her crudely. You will always show respect. The children would anyways be on their laps, you would love and respect insha'Allah. That is because they were slaves, right? Insha'Allah That was always how it was in Ottoman times.
