Excerpt from Mr. Adnan Oktar's Live Interview at Kahramanmaraş Aksu TV on April 24th, 2010
PRESENTER:"My Dear Adnan Hodja, in the book 'Futuh'ul Ghayba' by Hazrat Gaylani, it is said about the lower self, "Every time you kill your inner self with the sword of opposition, Allah resurrects it again. When resurrected, it begins to want more from you. The inner self doesn't die; it exists as long as you are alive. But it gets disciplined. Then you will try to discipline it and you will be rewarded on this way." Can we say that the real struggle begins first in the inner self of a person? Is it possible for our inner self to be content in the life of this world?" Adiyaman, Osman Balci.
ADNAN OKTAR:Actually it's very easy to crush and discipline the inner self. It is a very unreasonable action for a man who knows death, a man who knows that the world has an end, a person who knows his weaknesses, to be the slave of this inner self. I mean, the inner self doesn't call us to important or really impressive things. What is there in the world that it can call us to? What can it do? It can call for illicit things such as alcohol, but there is no pleasure in alcohol, there is no beauty. It can call to adultery, but a person would feel disgusted with adultery, he can't enjoy it either. How should I know, it calls to anger and anger gets us into trouble and makes us sick, disturbs us. We can't enjoy it either. The things, that the inner self demands are bad things, disturbing things anyway. Disciplining the inner self seems like a difficult job to do, but disciplining the inner self is on the contrary a blessing, an ease for a person. Disciplining the inner self directs a person towards comfort. You are saved from trouble, boredom, discomfort if you get rid of your inner self. To say "I abide by inner self" means "my conscious is closed." This is a very awkward situation; it has no logic. If we say that the man abides by his inner self, this is an action harmful to himself. He harms himself, so it's a self-inflicted pain, like hitting his head to the wall or injuring himself, it plainly is inflicting pain on one's self. A man who controls his inner self, only then lives according to his inner self. For example, if he doesn't have an illicit connection but gets close with his lawful wife, then this is a blessing for him, it becomes a beauty. If he doesn't tell a lie, he opens up and his conscience opens up. If he forgives, his mind becomes clear and his boredom disappears. If he doesn't use drugs or alcohol, he becomes healthy and alive. This is something to the advantage of the inner self. The opposite is against the inner self. For example, he gambles; gambling is very disturbing, very provocative. Most gamblers become neurotic and it always leads to loss, it has devastating effects. Someone who doesn't do it is at ease, lives a better life and his life becomes prosperous.
