Excerpt from Mr. Adnan Oktar's Live Interview at Samsun Aks and TV Kayseri on May 5th, 2010
PRESENTER 3:Are interest, using credit and stock exchange forbidden by religion?
ADNAN OKTAR: Of course, it's very clear. Interest is forbidden by the verse of the Qur'an. What a sad incident it is; there is a poor person let's say a worker retiree and he wants to buy a house but he is in a desperate condition. He says "As-salamu alaykum", they say, "Alaykum salam." He says, "I need money", they say, "of course we can give you." "How much would you like?" He says, "Enough to buy a house, how much interest will I pay?" They say, "We get as much interest as the base payment. But let's do you a favor." What is that now? This person is already barely getting on. What is with this interest being taken? Isn't it a pity for that person? Personally, even if it was not forbidden by religion, I would not take and use that money. Even if it were not gained through interest and not forbidden somehow; let us say he bought it by paying twice the price... For example, there is a house and the man says, "I will give you twice as much its worth." I can't use that money. What a pity on that man. And do you know what they do when the man can't pay it back? They go into his house and get his refrigerator, washing machine, bed and quilt and throw him off to street. What is that now? What does a Muslim do in such a situation? What does one do in all conscience? Is this something to put up with? Allah has forbid this as a very nice blessing for us. Why would that happen? But there can be a profit share; I mean if you win something it is okay and if it's a loss you share the loss, if it's a profit you share the profit.
