Excerpt from Adnan Oktar's Live Interview at HarunYahya.TV on May 4th, 2010
PRESENTER:If a Muslim dies when he is in debt, and if his family is not in a position to pay this debt and if the lender does not give his blessing, what would the condition of the debtor be in the Hereafter even though he was actually wanting, willing and planning to pay back?
ADNAN OKTAR:If he was willing to pay back his debt and sincerely decided about that, then of course he would be innocent. But it is beneath a Muslim to demand payment of a debt from a person in that condition. Allah says, "Forgive the debts, and forgive the debts of those who are in no position to pay." There is a verse in the Qur'an; it's the command of Allah. If he is in a difficult situation, if he is truly and sincerely poor and in real trouble then it would be beneath a Muslim to go to his house and get his refrigerator, washing machine, or the sofas they sit on. According to the Qur'an that debt should be forgiven. It should be endowed to him. The person will say "I render the debt." He would find abundance in this. There would no blessing in the money he acquires from someone in a bad situation. Money acquired by breaking up his family, devastating his children, selling his possessions, throwing him to street would bring no benefit to the other. There is a good in everything. But that would not bring him any good. Insha'Allah. Therefore, that command of Allah must be followed. How nice this is. He should say, "Brother it's obvious that you cannot pay. I'm in need also but you are in a more difficult condition than I am. I don't want the money that would cause your family and children to be devastated. It would trouble my conscience. In the Qur'an, Allah says, "forgive" so I forgave. Allah insha'Allah would show mercy; give abundance to both you and me" and give his right up to him. This is the right thing to do.
