Excerpt from Mr. Adnan Oktar's Live Interview at HarunYahya TV on September 12th, 2010
ADNAN OKTAR: Brother Bilal from America says: "Master, could you give me more detailed information?" Let's give him more detailed information. Look, Mawdudi is a great scholar. I have already told what he has said but let me tell it once more. He is a scholar also praised by Bediuzzaman. Mawdudi is a very important person. "Statements about Zulayha marrying the Prophet Joseph (pbuh) after her husband died are mostly compliant with and based on stories." It is not based on hadiths. It has no religious, no Qur'anic basis; it is not based on hadith. "As a matter of fact, Zulayha did not leave a good impression. As understood from the verses in the Qur'an, Zulayha had used every evil trick she could to deviate the Prophet Joseph (pbuh)." Mawdudi says this. He says, "Master, how could you say this about Zulayha?" The Qur'an says this. Allah says this and look, Mawdudi who is a great mujaddid says this. Insha'Allah. Look, "Zulayha had used every evil trick she could to deviate the Prophet Joseph (pbuh)." This is what we reproach. Right? This is what is strange. This is a sickness. I am not saying; "This sickness lasted until she died or these people went to Hell." I do not know that. Insha'Allah Allah has forgiven them and they are of the people of Heaven. How would I know? But we are criticizing their behaviors at that moment. The Qur'an criticizes and Almighty Allah criticizes, and I am communicating that. The great scholars are criticizing and I am just reporting what they said.
Being a person of Hell.. I also commit sins and many people commit sins and make mistakes. We ask for forgiveness. Someone making a mistake does not mean that he or she will go to Hell. No one knows the end of anyone would be. Right? But if there is a mistake being made, this could be told. If there is something wrong, this could be told. If there is a sickness, this is told. This is told to set an example; for another person not to fall into that same mistake. "She struggled to deviate him from the path of Allah, from the truth, from the true path." These are all sins and abnormal behaviors. It is not said that "she went to Hell." What does it say? "She struggled to deviate the Prophet Joseph (pbuh) from the path of Allah, from the truth, from the true path." This is an evil act; a wrongful act. "It is certain with verses of the Qur'an that she lied for this and used various tricks." Lying is also illegal by religion. Right? For instance, a Muslim is not tricked as this is also illegal. He or she is not slandered, as this is illegal as well. She had done all of these. But we do not say "She went to Hell." We are just telling the mistake and shortness and sickness there. "It is certain with verses of the Qur'an that she lied for this and used various tricks. Marrying such a woman would harm the dignity of a Prophet". Mawdudi says: The Prophet Joseph (pbuh) being married to her is against this verse: Surat an-Nur, 24th Surah 26th verse. "Corrupt women are for corrupt men and corrupt men are for corrupt women, Good women are for good men and good men are for good women. " Surat an-Nur. There is a verse; the verse of Allah. These commands are valid for all of the Prophets. They are valid for all of them; Islam did not come for the first time with our Prophet (saas); the Torah is also Islam. The religion at the time that the Torah came was also Islam. When the Bible came, the Bible also told Islam.
For example, I am giving another evidence to my brother. This is from Tabari; the commentary of Tabari; I provide evidences from the greatest Islamic scholars of the Ahl Al-Sunnah. Look, what does Tabari say? "In the Torah, it is revealed that the king who got the Prophet Joseph (pbuh) out of the dungeon and delivered the management to him, also got him married with Asenat, the daughter of the seer of the 10 cities, Poti-fera, and that the Prophet Joseph (pbuh) had two sons from this wife of his before the famine." Look, "The daughter of Poti-fera, Asenat." So she is not Zulayha; she is a different person. This for instance is alright. Genesis, 41/45-50. He says "The name of Zulayha's husbands, Aziz, was Potifar. It is possible that the father of Asenat, Poti-fera and the husband of Zulayha was confused with one another due to similarity of their names." He says "They are confused due to similarity of the names." He says "And this is reason that it is told that he married with Zulayha who was the wife of Potifar whom the Prophet Joseph (pbuh) took over the duty and who caused him the troubles known." He says "Therefore there may have been such a confusion and those were said." Tabari, History I, 178; Ibn Kasir, Tafsir, Salabi p. 128. It is in all of them.
It is in Ibn Kasir and Salabi and Tabari as well. "Qurtubi told that when he provides information about his children, he told the names of his two sons and one daughter; however he did not mention their mothers." (Commentary, 9, 270) He says "The reason for this should be the unreliability about the narrations about the wife of the Prophet Joseph (pbuh)." Because there are no accounts, all there exists is a story. It does not work with stories.
But look, I am saying, maybe all of these people are guides and then Allah forgave them, right? So they are cleared of their sins. Right? We do not refer to that part. The Qur'an does not say "These people went to Hell." Allah tells their mistakes at the time. Also the mistakes of the Prophet Joseph (pbuh)'s brothers at that time. These are told as an example. We also have a responsibility to tell people "This is a sickness. This is an evil behavior." I mean there is nothing to state that we cannot explain these due to respect. Allah already told this in the Qur'an. How could we not tell? The Will of Allah is exalted and not the will of the public.
