"Master today at school our teacher said; "religion and science are separate things from each other." Upon these words, I have said; "On the contrary, Islam is a religion that complies with science." Our teacher said; "No. Think it this way; religion is constant and science is a concept that progresses constantly. If a man comes up and says "I have found life without oxygen" and supports that with verses from the Qur'an and another one comes up the other day and says that this is a lie; we would and people would look at the Qur'an as if there was a mistake." Master, I do know that Islam and science are a whole insha'Allah. I would appreciate if you could enlighten this incident. We are in need of your prayers, Master. "Religion and science are separate things from each other".. In what sense does he say that? Religion and science is intertwined with each other, so much so that religion commands science. For instance Allah commands us to study the art Allah created in the skies. He commands us to study the art Allah created on land. "We will show them Our signs in the Universe and in their own souls, until it will become clear to them that it is the truth" says Allah in the Qur'an. There are a lot of verses regarding this command. Now in this situation what do we say?  We say that "Religion and science are intertwined with each other" they are not separated. "Islam is a religion that complies with science." That statement is also wrong; "Comply with", religion does not need complying. Religion would not have any problem of complying with anything; there would be no such matter. Science; Allah creates science, Allah creates the scientist, Allah creates the scientific findings, Allah creates the physics laws.  Scientist just discovers the laws created by Allah. Allah establishes those laws ready to be discovered and the man says "I found it!" while he is just wandering around. Allah places it there, the man just finds. That is the attribute of a scientist. Scientist is like a man who feels pleased to have found gold while wandering around in the streets. Allah is the One Who puts that gold there. He places one there, one there, one there, one there, He places hundreds of gold coins; these men while wandering around, such wretched beings, one day one of them finds, the other day the other, the other day the other one, the other day the other one finds it. They just find the laws Allah made. Man cannot create a law; people do not invent a [physics] law. Consequently saying "religion complies with science".. there is no need to use such words like comply, compliance etc..

Saying that "they are separate things" is the result of the deficiency in that friend's education. Religion commands science; consequently religion and science are intertwined with each other. Science serves religion. Just like He makes people serve, Allah also makes science serve religion, He also makes technical equipments serve. But look there is a very important point here; all physics laws are hidden by Allah. When the day comes the individuals, by the leave of Allah, with the compelling of destiny, find them on that spot that they are hidden. And then the man runs out to the streets with waist clothes shouting "Eureka! Eureka!" He just finds out what Allah sets out. Is that understood? Insha'Allah.
