Excerpt from Mr. Adnan Oktar's Live Interview on A9 TV and Kaçkar TV dated April 19th, 2011
ADNAN OKTAR: "Is being sad and feeling grief acceptable in Islam. With regards from Azerbaijan. Ferzaliyev Murad" Well, being sad and feeling grief is stupidity. Why would a Muslim ever do that? I mean he would be crushing himself for no reason at all, he would be saddening himself for nothing. He would be damaging the functions of his body for no reason. That is because when one feels sad what happens? His health would be deranged, his cholesterol level would rise, all parts of his body would contract, the veins in his brain would constrict, his veins in his heart would constrict. You would grow pale, you would feel pain, you would get sick. I mean is this something that a wise man would ever do? If you trust in Allah and leave everything to Allah, you would be very healthy, happy and joyous. Why is there the need for that? For that reason Almighty Allah forbid feeling grief and sorrow in the Qur'an. It is unnecessary. It is not a wise behavior for a person to crush himself and to make himself suffer with grief. I mean it is something like him cutting himself, like him poisoning himself. Saddening yourself would be the same with you poisoning yourself. What is the difference in between? They are the same. Insha'Allah.. But of course for the ones who feel this unavoidably, let us not say that it is stupidity but let us say that they are doing wrong. They are to correct themselves. But if one does that knowingly and if he damages his own body, that would be stupidity of course. What else would a person's hurting himself willingly and intentionally, be called?
