ALTUG BERKER: Master, as you already know, the third Sunday of June is celebrated as Fathers' Day every year. So today is the Fathers' Day and I would like to celebrate the Fathers' Day of all fathers, insha'Allah. You frequently stress on the fact that the good mannered, honored parents should always be held in high esteem and say that especially when they grow old, seeing them as a burden and  not protecting them or waiting for their passing away as soon as possible, would not be compatible with the morality of a Muslim. You've always said that having old grandfathers, grandmothers at home with us would be a great blessing and a beauty and you always stress on the importance of protecting and watching over the elder family members, when they grow old and are in need. However, at the present time, there are many people who do not want to look after their families and who do not take care of their parents  because they have grown old.

Today the CNN Turk news team has visited the senior centers.  Many people staying in those centers have said that they have not seen their children for years, that they have never visited them there and that they would not know what they could do if they were not in that senior center. They said that they were lonely but had been keeping company with other old people in the senior center. Children of many of those people living there are only calling them once in a while and ask after their health but never come to visit them. There are many parents today whose children wait for their deaths and who are abandoned to some corners.   

ADNAN OKTAR: Yes, judgment about parents has been explicitly explained in the Qur'an. ( I seek refuge with Allah from the satan)"Your Lord has decreed that .. you should show kindness to your parents. Whether one or both of them reach old age with you, do not say 'Ugh!' to them out of irritation.." says Almighty Allah. "..but," says Almighty Allah, ".. if they endeavor to make you associate with Me something about which you have no knowledge," meaning if they act in contradiction with the Qur'an and Allah, then ".. do not obey them," says Allah. What does do not obey them mean; that means they would not be addressed if they are encouraging rebellion against Allah. I mean if they say; "you are not going to see Muslims, you are not going to read the Qur'an, you are not going to perform your prayers, you will do this, you will do that.." then that is not accepted. But if they do not interfere your religion and your faith, even if he goes and drinks wine in a tavern until he becomes as drunk as a skunk, you are to take him to your shoulder and take him home. The right they have on us as fathers and mothers is very important. Showing compassion and love towards them is specifically mentioned in the verses of the Qur'an. Insha'Allah.
