In 1991, the Muslim population made up only one thousandth of the total population. This figure increased by 10 percent by 2011: Currently, there are around 49,000 Muslims residing in Ireland. In 2020, this figure is forecast to surpass 100,000.

The Irish authorities have funded the establishment of an Islamic facility on a 5,573 square meter area. This facility will include a mosque, a cultural center, a library, a bookstore, a nursery and a fitness center.
